'mr Baldy' May Be Living In Prison Grounds

NOTORIOUS pedophile "Mr Baldy" is believed to be living in the grounds of Ararat Prison, from where he was released a week ago. Brian Keith Jones, who earned the nickname by shaving the heads of young boys he later sexually assaulted, was paroled after serving a 14-year jail term.

Upon his release, Jones, 58, was secretly placed in a house in Kent Street, Ascot Vale, close to five schools and only a few suburbs away from one of his victims' homes. He was moved to an undisclosed location on Wednesday after the media discovered his address and residents expressed outrage when they learned the pedophile was their neighbour.

Premier Steve Bracks last week said the Kent Street house, a meeting point for children walking to school, was appropriate for Jones given his strict monitoring conditions. The Age believes Jones has been moved to a house in the grounds of Ararat Prison while authorities seek a permanent home for him. -- SELMA MILOVANOVIC
